God is Scandalous: A Miracle Full of Surprises
God is Scandalous: A Miracle Full of Surprises   Surprise: to cause to feel wonder or astonishment by being unexpected Life is full of surprises – good and bad. Jesus is a God full of Surprises:
    His
    Grace
    His
    Power
    His
    Glory
    His
Love   In John 11 we see Jesus as the God full of surprises. A Miracle Full of Surprises: John 11 Jesus receives a desperate plea for help and demonstrates His love by Delay
    – verses 1-16
Reasons for Jesus to delay Your Benefit His Glory Jesus’ glory will always benefit you. Jesus comes up against devastating loss and consoles grief by directing attention to Himself
    – verses 17-27
Jesus makes two claims: I am the resurrection I am the life There is no life or resurrection apart from Jesus. Jesus confronts implacable death and displays His sovereignty over it in Tears and Outrage
    – verses 28-44
Why tears and outrage? It was not because Jesus was powerless or frustrated. It was not because Jesus was overwhelmed with grief. It was not because Jesus felt empathy for His friends. It is outrage over death because it is the mark and outcome of sin. Jesus’ response to His tears and outrage is positive – He raises Lazarus from the dead. Jesus comes up against moral and spiritual death and gives life by Dying Himself
    – verses 45-53
The religious leaders wanted Jesus’ death to preserve: The Nation Their Position of Power  1 Corinthians 1:23-25 (NLT) Jesus’ death produced a much more powerful result: Your Salvation Jesus Living in You Jesus’ death and resurrection provides all we need to live in relationship with the Father. – John 14:6b (NIV) John 11:45-48 (TM) Belief
    – Jesus is God and Lord
    Rejection
    – Jesus is not God or Lord
Lazarus dies but because of his relationship with Jesus he was raised from the dead by Jesus. It is all about the relationship. Belief and Submission = Life Rejection and Rebellion = Death
